Shout out to Mark Whitfield on rhythm guitar in red. I don't know Mayer, but I know Whitfield! :)

Better than I expected...The interlude for solos was musically thrilling, and had absolutely nothing, whatever, to do with the tune.If Mayer's flavor-of-the-month celebrity (from my superannuated perspective) introduces a new generation to this great tune, God bless him.

JM's voice seems perfectly suited for Sinatra-Tony Bennett type stuff. He has great tone. He does pretty well on his own stuff, but it seems like vocally this is a great fit. Maybe his next album he could do sort of a tribute to this genre.

That's Mark Whitfield on guitar. He's one of the world's foremost Jazz guitar players. Check out a performance where he can really stretch out. John Mayer certainly keeps good company. The his guitar was made by guitar builder Stephen Marchione near where I live in Houston, TX. And yes, it's quite red.

This song was written by Dave Mann with lyrics by Bob Hilliard. To say it's by Paul Anka is to give him much too much credit!

Paul Anka actually wrote this song even though Frank performed it. Paul Anka - Lonely Boy (complete) Its a joy to watch the whole thing to see how much the industry has changed, but at about 15:30 you will see him messing with the song on the piano.

Although I enjoyed this performance, I can't help but feel that it's missing Frank Sinatra's voice.
