Much missed. Such a soulful singer and brilliant guitarist. Into Karl Culley at the moment, a new guy compared with John by MOJO mag.

And peace and love to you also. Our memories are such that they can never be taken away. I'm so glad that I was privileged enough to live through those times. Thanks for reminding me - I was in danger of forgetting. xxx

the tax man gets everything in the end ...apart from the memory you have of being in the same room at the same time with Nick Drake and John Martyn.. that is something no matter how well i do or how much i ever earn can never have ..i know it dont pay the bills but i wouldnt be communicating with you now if you were a good bill payer ..peace and love to you xx

I LOVE this version - so bursting with life! Shame the album version sounds so lethargic by comparison. I remember being so excited when I first saw this performance, not realising that this is actually a lost song from the mid-70s rather than a stunning return to form... still this rendition is quite brilliant :)

10 dislikes, that is ok, there are always those who will. What I would like to know is why? Great song, great singer, yes, he is older and rougher here than before, but who is'nt?

Yes, they were wonderful times all right. I've just heard, for the umpteenth time, that stupid Daft Punk record played on the radio. It's a dreadful earworm and it does my head in! Which way did the sixties go, eh? Now I'm having to sell my record collection to pay the taxman who says I don't have enough money coming in from my pitiful depleted pension, so they are going to have to ask me to make up the shortfall. Sorry about the whinging but I despair of these times. Thanks for the post.

Hi Andrew, I was definitely at the Stables in Milton Keynes the last time Al Stewart played there. I know he was meeting and greeting at the end, but stupidly got a bit shy and convinced he wouldn't remember me, so didn't stay to say hello. You and I probably passed each other - how strange! I too was disappointed that he went to the USA. He always seemed so much one of ours. It seems that we both have tales to tell. Hope they have that reunion. Be good to meet you. Best regards, Diane

hello diane, some parallels..I also knew al stewart in old days.too many memories for this limited space, maybe another time. I also disliked him going to usa.last saw him nov.74, then 84 in bristol club and he remembered me. recently ,I last saw him milton keynes, and he mentioned cousins reunion.I also have that real enthusiasm for old venues, cousins, middle earth, lyceum, bunjies, etc. we were probably at same concerts?havent got ticket yet, but going to albert hall.surname is reed.bye, andrew

Hello - Got your e-mail. How lovely to talk to someone who remembers those times - and with the same surname. Doesn't matter how it's spelt, we're obviously related somewhere along the line! By the way, are you a Reed, Reid, or Reade? I've got tickets to see Al Stewart at the Albert Hall in October. I used to know him quite well but I'm sure he wouldn't recognise me now. Ralph McTell told me that there is going to be a Cousins reunion some time, so look out for it. Regards, Diane Read

hello, it was good to read your piece. I too used to go to cousins, mainly to see al stewart, roy harper, etc. I remember john martyn in his white boiler suit singing and helping with sound systems. I missed nick drake there but saw him with fairport convention and john and beverley martyn. so many good things, as you say. trees were/are one of favourites, plus r progressive stuff too. I still try and see people like pentangle, and go to cropredy festival we have same surname, different spelling
