And while I might listen to the live albums of my favorite artists, I do so once. Just like going to a concert. A moment in time and a document, but they are never, ever something I want to come back to. And they are in the same category as compilations or greatest hits record, simply because they ARE compilations of previous work by the artist. Every single time. Almost no one ever released a live album of new material. And every live album suffers in comparison to the show. Lame in comparison.

Composition is the only thing under consideration here.Lou was a hack craftsman cranking out lame pop for a studio for years. He wrote one astonishing record in the first VU record. Virtually everything he did after that sucked, while Cale went on to become one of the greatest composers of all, one who grew and changed. Lou became a bore stuck in a rut for 30 years. Game. Set. Match. Cale.
