Now, I started this video at like six thirty this morning and I finished it about fifteen minutes ago, so it took me about seven hours to make. :P Hope you like it. Might sound corny but I can hardly listen to this song without a mist forming in my eyes. The character in this song is the silent hero that realizes the other miners have wives and children and he really has no one waiting for him at the top. So he unselfishly sacrifices himself so others can live by using the one thing he has, his super strength, to create the opening for them to escape. The spoken word rendition is powerful and no one could've delivered it better than Jimmy Dean did. Remains a favorite of mine and will forever.10 years ago

Actually, the ORIGINAL version is the "one hell of a man" version. The line was considered somewhat profane so the record company (I believe it was Columbia) had him change it for the radio version to "big big man." Notice that in both versions, however, that the line "through the smoke and dust of that man-made hell.." is unchanged. 10 years ago
