We saw him in the 70's at the Catalyst in Santa Cruz. Great show, once he got there, the people were getting way fed up when he was over an hour late. He had just got married and once he got there he was fantastic.

These talk show hosts are the biggest scumbags on the planet. That's one reason Cher told David Letterman to F**k Off. Good for Jesse

Some of you didn't get it! He paved the way for for songwriters. They were treating us like dirt without any respect while stealing our money!. Arrogant was Johnny Carson if you ask me. Like the way he treated Joan Rivers. As if he were God Almighty! Glorifying a "Talk show host" Instead of a brilliant songwriter! That's America for you. In Europe and the rest of the world artists are revered and treated as special people. Here if you are talentless and have a fake big butt( LOL) or made yourself famous for whatever idiotic reason, and have money then people look up to you!

Dumb, Jessie Colin Young just that typical David Crosby whiner. Too bad he was talented, no clue about how television works. Peter Gertenzberg, what would a douche like you know about Carson. He didn't hire the talent you twat.

Back then, bands were treated like dirt by promoters and TV shows, with a couple of exceptions. Mike Douglas, Smothers Bros, and Dean Martin were good to the bands. Johnny Carson and Ed Sullivan didn't like the hip groups, but liked the audience it brought them. I would have walked off, too. To the commentators on here who obviously don't know anything about JCY beyond the 'one hit', guess what - the Youngbloods had more albums, a large following, and were never the type to 'crank out the hits' - go listen to your top ten bubble gum groups. Jesse had a very successful solo career, and still performs and records.

I guess people complaining about him standing up for himself go to work and gladly hand over their hard earned pay back to the company they work for.

Guess it never occurred to him that the audience may of wanted to hear one of his hits instead of something that may or may not have made the charts. Truthfully I liked the band better before seeing this interview. Such arrogance.

Carson called them punks and threw them off the show.

Good job Jesse ! Too Many artists get fucked around ! And fuck you Bob the Blade ? Do you make your living playing music ? My Family did ! If you are not a musician , I think that you have no idea what you are even talking about .

Jessie didn't write "Come Together" but he did a genius cover of that and should be proud that the made a previously recorded mediocre song INCREDIBLE!!!!....A good assessment of the sleazy world of show business...

If Carmen MacRae could get bumped, a lightweight like Jesse Colin Young.....well, I'm surprised he was on the schedule in the first place. I don't understand your comment; it's not clearly written. Maybe you should post in your native tongue.

His choice of coarse, but considering Johnny Carson would always hold up a copy of a group or musician's latest album and give it a plug and also announce any upcoming shows they may have,so it seems like asking them to play their hit song that everyone wanted to hear was trivial.Again, getting your latest album plugged to millions of people seems like a good thing. But he showed them who's boss, and then some other guess that night would have gotten to be on air 4 more minutes.
