I saw Jesse live in 1976. About 6' away from him. Small venue. I remember the very first time I ever heard his music, Song for Julie album. The music, his voice, I had never heard anything so heavenly. No one else's music has ever effected me so deeply. To this day, when I hear him sing, or do what he does with a guitar, it's like a balm washing over & through me. It takes me to a place. What a gift he has been given.

NOBODY sounds like JCY. THAT'S why few have had the stones to attempt to cover his material. Can't touch him. Had EM and a solo lp w/just JCY and guitar. No production, no band. Nothing. Just JCY, acoustic 6 and some mics. A little reverb. His version of Rye Whiskey is like Paul Brady's of Arthur McBride. Singular and untouchable. He's remarkable. Wise, erudite, gracious, realistic, good natured. Should be in the RnR HOF. For Get Together, Sunlight and Darkness Darkness alone.
