Bendage

a couple of years ago, i had moved from the big city to a small town where my family lives to take a break from life's bullshit and to start anew. once i got there, i got a job working with my older sister at a flower shop. i was the delivery driver, so i spent a lot of time in my car. i had a 96 forerunner and my sister, who grew up as an adolescent in the late 80s and early 90s, had an amazing collection of cassettes that she left me borrow. the violent femmes, smashing pumpkins, run dmc, cocteau twins, etc. the job was really something else, because all i did was deliver flowers to people in a small town and listen to music. it was surrounded by really nice country, so sometimes i would have to go way out to make a delivery. cars don't come with these equipped now, but i was really thankful that my car had a cassette player and that i had such wonderful cassettes.but, out of all of the cassettes i had, my favorite was jane's addiction - nothing's shocking. that cassette stayed in the player for at least a month straight. that started my love for this band.once i got a new car, with a modern cd player, i bought ritual de lo habitual. i didn't think that anything could top nothing's shocking, but i was wrong. this album is seriously something else.it exists within the empyrean of musical ethereum and we are lucky to witness it.

It's rather obvious that this is one of the best albums ever made in music history.

An underrated gem, not so often considered maybe because at a first listen it does not really stand out on the album... Not as direct as the first 3 songs, not as catchy as Been Caught Stealing, not as complex as Three Days and Then She Did, not as bizarre as Of Course. But to me it's one of the best on the entire album: a fantastic reinterpretation of the psychedelia that made the 60s great. Great song.
