Eric Burdon has far more soul than Elvis. Elvis was a rock-n-roller who turned out to be a pop star. Eric was a pop star who turned out to be a rocker.

@OldCoelacanth I like Saxophone better, and this puts Elvis to shame!

@GuyWithNoName67 Hello Guy. I only know what's on the back of the CD cover, I'm afraid. The Work Song and Jailhouse Rock tracks on this CD have the date 1967 (New Animals time), and there is a note that they were recorded for the BBC so they were probably recorded for a broadcast. But on the Roadrunners CD the same songs have the note 'British Radio 1966'. So I don't know.

Was this and 'Work Song' recorded in 1966, or around the time of the "New Animals"?

@crazybilkonut as you maybe noticed it is a cover! that means that it hasn t got to be exactly the same, espacially for well-known groups it s much more interesting to chance the song a little bit :) but u could be right, too :D

Singers have to pay attention to copyright laws.. I imagine that is one reason for the change from slide trombone to saxophone.

@crazybilkonut Hi crazybilkonut, thanks for your comment. It does sound great doesn't it. I think he's singing in a tradition which welcomes a bit of improvisation, so singing lyrics slightly differently at different times doesn't really matter that much. I don't think it's really 'wrong'.
