This is the first time I have heard Jacques Brel sing in Flemish and what a delight! He must tear the hearts of flatlanders everywhere. I suppose that must include me as my "Irish" ancestors were originally Huguenot/Flemish refugees from your still-divided land!

There are two excellent sources about Jacques Brels life, one is an English extended biography by Olivier Todd, the other is a German PhD thesis on the reception of J. Brel's work by Thomas Weick. Once you have read the two books which takes a while, you know about 95 % of the facts. No need to invent stories. Brel was Flemish born but an international, mainly French singer/songwriter
