71 years ago today the Allied forces landed on the beaches of Normandy, starting what it would be the turn of WWII and the ultimate crush of the German forces, in what we know today as D-Day. Many lives were lost during the initial phases of the campaign, and the courage and sacrifice of the soldiers cannot be overestimated. As a WWII enthusiast, I wanted to remember this day.My favorite band, Iron Maiden, recorded a song about D-Day. The song is aptly named "The Longest Day". I found on youtube a moving montage using scenes of the movie Saving Private Ryan coordinated with the song by Maiden. Very powerful!
