I noticed below some criticism of H.W. for not inserting the same tragic emotion to this song that Ann Hathaway did in the movie. Face it, Hathaway re-defined this epic song, in contrast to all the previous versions. Pretty awesome, considering Hathaway is an actress first and a singer (distant) 2nd. You could criticize her voice quality; but her powerful emotions eclipsed any such vocal weaknesses.So, back to Haley Westenra. You could apply the same criticism to Ruthie Henshall, Susan Boyle and - frankly - every other woman who's sung this song, other than Hathaway; because, to repeat, Hathaway simply and completely redefined the song.

A lot of people are critisising her singing. Unless you're a choir teacher or a professional singer, I say you have no right to judge her. She sings beautifully and packs a lot of emotion into her voice. As a violinist I can't tell you how much it annoys when people criticize my playing and don't even play the violin, or Godforbid have never even picked up an instrument before.
