Telamor guitar ace Tom Hauck shows you how to play Keith's part in "Sympathy for the Devil" as performed in 1969 on "Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out." Standard tuning, no capo. This iconic song has been recorded by the Stones many times using many different arrangements. Anyone who asserts that there is one "correct" way to play these four chords is an idiot. The tricky part is the slow tempo - about 120 BPM - and the samba beat. This means that many of your stock eighth-note rock licks may not fill enough space, and in your solo you'll need to play fast sixteenth notes.
Previous to Telamor, Tom Hauck was a guitar player and songwriter for Boston's powerpop titans the Atlantics (1976 - 1982) and Ball and Pivot (1983 - 1988).

mate it's so cool getting it from a south paw. I knew all that but to have it played in a mirror without having to reverse everything is fucking brilliant. That's sort of how I play, being from then, I was in Hyde Park that day but got into a scrap with a gang(of course) of skin heads up the other end and spent the after noon crying under a tree with my friend Pete Lucas who had adopted the nick name Monkey Man or Mr Monkey from Aldenham school Herts(see IF) nursing a black eye and a split lip.
