Between Clara Bow and Helen Kane, given that both stars were highly famous at the time, it's likely that Fleischer took inspiration from both. We'll never know since we can't read his mind.However, Helen Kane was undoubtedly the major influence. Kane's court case was a complete farce in my opinion. The jury must have been out of its mind, or rigged . Anyone with eyes and ears can see that Helen Kane IS Betty Boop. Not to mention, the Fleischer victory newsreel published following the trial was just cruel.
