Saturday Morning,

And it's growing Light.

I look out my window,

And remember the night.

A story's starting,

And this story ends.

And I feel like I need you...

Again.

Time used to move softly,

When I was at home.

To went on without me,

And left me alone.

Now it sits in my shoulder

And claws at my pen (head/hand?)

And I feel like I need you...

Again

A song needs a reason to (and) write (rhyme)....

My love needs a little more time....

Well I recall September,

Leaves turning brown.

Remember October

Left leaves on the ground.

And here comes December,

Like and elderly friend.

And I feel like I need you again.

A song needs a reason to(and) write(rhyme)....

My love needs a little more time....

My love needs a little more time.

I wrote the lyrics myself so correct me if I'm wrong somewhere, or if you can find out if it's head or hand or something else all together.

thanks tinydancer, pursuitpkg, and Thexdar

Ah ha! I'd kept thinking the credit for this song was Steve. Thanks for the correction! Love this song!!!!!

Well, I noticed a few lyrical fixes I could help with. 1.) "It went on without me and left me alone" 2.) "Now it sits in my shoulder and claws at my pen" 3.) "A song needs a reason and rhyme" 4.) And here comes December like an elderly friend" That should make all of the lyrical uncertainties clear, and thanks for posting some of the best, and most underrated music out there (Harry's, of course). =)

This is definitely brother Tom Chapin singing this song, not Harry!

@SongsofHarry Thanks, I could not remember for sure about the song ... I enjoyed Tom's TV show " Make a Wish " Even though it was targeted mostly for children ... I will admit I am still a child at heart ... :- ) Have a good day...

@Thexdar I recall reading Tom Chapin and another person wrote this song.

On the lyrics it is "claws at my hand."... The other one is "A song needs a reason and rhyme" One other line in the third verse is "It went on without me" instead of Went on without me ... I really like Harry and this was sung by his brother Tom...I am not sure but it could have been written by Tom ... They were a very talented brothers ... Harry, Tom and Steve. Hoped I helped a little ....

You are correct in the fact that the lyric is "Now it sits at my shoulder and claws at my pen". I believe it's in the context that time is prompting him to put onto paper the song about how he feels and needs to communicate that feeling to the other person. I could be mistaken on another point, but I always believed the line was "A song needs a reason to rhyme", but you could be correct in your interpretation.

@TinyDancer500 Replying to myself, gotta be something Freudian going on there ;-) Okay, now I've taken the time to give it a good listen, here's what I hear for that verse: Now it's sits at my shoulder and claws at my pen Rhymes with "again" and still in keeping with the writing theme. Whatcha think? Besides maybe I should just get a life already, lol! Hey, it's Harry, dammit.

I've always heard it as "hand" myself. Fits with him talking about writing a song. A bit of a downer, yeah, but so soothing when your soul needs it.
