Tower of Power

V novembri 1966 pod názvom Harpers Bizarre uzatvorili zmluvu s Warner Bros. Skupinu tvorili Ted Templeman nar. 24. oktobra 1944 v Santa Cruz spev, gitara, bicie,Dick Scoppettone nar. 5. júla 1945 spev, gitara, basová gitara, Eddie James spev, gitara, Dick Young spev, basová gitara a John Petersen nar.

Feel good stuff from my childhood. Although I love Simon and Garfunkel I preferred the harmonising on this version.

On this day in 1867 {November 2nd} the magazine 'Harper's Bazaar' was founder... Just under one hundred years later on February 18th, 1967 the group Harpers Bizarre's debut record, "The 59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin' Groovy)", entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #13 and spent 11 weeks on the Top 100... Between Feb. 1967 and Sept. 1968 the group had five records make the Top 100 chart... R.I.P. John Petersen {the group's drummer, 1945 - 2007}...

The term is 'lip syncing' and it was very common on most 60's tv shows (except big name variety such as Ed Sullivan), since the studios rarely had the equipment for live performances. And even Ed Sullivan's performers didn't ALWAYS sing 'live.'

Interesting video, and wonderful song, but they are "singing" to the original record.

Happy 68th birthday today to Ted Templeman, he is a record producer and has worked with artists like The Doobie Brothers, Van Morrison, Carly Simon, Aerosmith and literally dozens more. Way back when, he played drums with Harpers BizarreHarpers Bizarre - The 59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin' Groovy)

This is how the original broadcast was, no changes after the fact. Terrible filming job, leaving out DS! I guess the Mike Douglas crew thought it would be 'cool' to add annoying psychedelic graphics :( There's another example from same show, search 'New Colony Six - Things I'd Like To Say (Rare clip from 1968)' Just as bad!

What a great memory. For me,I remember it as the time my big brother Ricky in the Marines was shipping off to Vietnam. They played tgis a lot back then on Los Angeles radio. Those were some really revealing times for me as an 9 year old.

This was the 60's. Some tv shows would add 'psychedelic' graphics for special effect...mostly it was just annoying.

The singer is Ted Templeman. He went on to be a record producer. He did the Doobie Bros, Little Feat, Montrose, Sammy Hagar & most of the Van Halen records.
