-The Wild Side of Life-

Originally released in 1952, the song became one of the most popular recordings in the genre's history, spending 15 weeks at No. 1 Billboard country charts, solidified Thompson's status as a country music superstar and inspired the answer song, "It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels" by Kitty Wells.

My dad used to put this on the family cassette player every night. With a gin and tonic in his left hand and his penis in his right, he used to slap the living daylights out of my mom and I. I can still hear hanks voice lingering in the background as an uncircumcised sausage violently bounced against my cheek while I tried to do homework. "OPEN UP YOU FUCK" my dad would yell with the sweet guitar picking of hank always bringing me back to a pleasant place. Those were the days

Hank sometimes sang about "The Wild Side of Life" where the "wine and liquor flowed"when he and his band played in Oklahoma. However, Oklahoma was the last state in the union to repeal prohibition of everything stronger than 3.2 beer in 1959. Well......not that that really seemed to stop the wine and liquor from flowing. People just took it in a brown paper sack and passed it around outside the country and western dances or later paid for set-ups in clubs while adding their own liquor which they brought in a brown paper sack. And of course people could always make a run up to Kansas and get some liquor legally to bring home and keep up in the kitchen cabinet for medicinal purposes.

One of the greatest legends of country music. Yes, this is true country, not like the #rap stuff we hear today.

Old Hank T and his old BVB's--minus the BVB's. Great Western Swing of the 40's and later---he and Wills and Cooley made the old juke boxes play and sold a lot of cold beer

Being 22 and having been raised by my grandparents, I've become adjusted to listening to this old country music, and I can honestly say id rather sit and listen to 1950s and 1960s country music then what we have today. I love it!
