Tthis is sort of right, but if you really want it to sound exactly as it is played, tune the guitar to open G (DGDGBD) and put a capo on the 2nd fret. You'll have to adjust the fingering accordingly, but you'll notice that the open strings will ring in sympathy, which is what you can hear in the original recording. Mark Knopfler has changed the way he plays it live these days, to more like what is being shown in this video.

Great question. I think your way is the way MK actually plays it himself! I prefer sliding my third finger down from the 7th fret to the 5th fret (and my second finger down from the 6th to the 4th) because then I don't have to change the picking pattern I've established with the fingers on my right hand. To play the same notes in 2nd position, I'd have to alternate my picking pattern between strings 5/4/3 and 5/3/2.
