Gram's constant brain marinade of alcohol & downers gave him a perpetual case of "Limpus Dingus" which would have made for an awkward, if not impossible, consummation of his relationship with Emmylou. Not that it really matters.

Gram seems like a really nice person, no pretenses or rockstar ego or a controlling nature like David Crosby, Zappa and Papa John. When I think of all the big names coming out of the LC scene I think I'd feel most comfortable hanging out and talking music with Gram Parsons. It's so sad and tragic that his life ended at just 26.

You can tell his feelings for her by the way he talks about her. He was married, and she had was a single mom, and he had that Southern gentleman thing of respecting her. I think he was probably a bit in awe of her. She has said in an interview in recent years that she did love him, never told him, and finally decided she was going to right before he died. She had deep concerns about his addiction problems, and the fact that he was married. They had a deep connection and their music shows that.

Not that this is a contest, but Gram's loss, to me is just a huge if not more so then Jim Morrison, Janis or Jimi. I am not saying his life was more important then theirs, but his talent, like theirs and even Buddy Holly's is massively unfulfilled. Hell I don't even know if this makes any sense.

That last comment probably should be cut into Emmylou's head stone (Not anytime soon though) "She has perfect pitch....She's beautiful." We are all of course aware of that now. However, he may have been the first to say it out loud. Like Willie has said, "There are only two type of men. Those that love Emmylou and those who haven't met her."

I think that if I was alive when Gram Parson was, I would have had the biggest crush on both him and Chris Hillman.

Harris was born in Birmingham, but she grew up in VA and NC. Virginia is probably where her Country music exposure would come from, since it is the birthplace of Country music. The Deeper South is actually less enthused with it.

Gram had the most beautiful voice ...

think that depends of how you define 'country' and 'folk'. Probably, Gram's definition of country was probably really wide. "...and... she's beautiful"

It's beside the point (tho hard not to wonder) whether or not GP & Emmy were lovers. (And good for her for keeping her private life private.) What non-musicians can't be expected to get is that they were so attuned musically that it was just as intense as a love affair. People who click musically often become partners for life ala Jagger & Richards. Doesn't necessarily mean they're lovers. Lindsey & Stevie are a good example. Couldn't maintain the bf/gf thing, but they're still partners in music

I saw an interview once with Emmy Lou where she said she didn't have the country music background Gram says here expected a southern girl to have. She didn't grow up with it, but that it was Gram's tutelage that turned her towards country music.

@oaklandfla2 If they weren't together, Gram's wife hated Emmylou for nothing! She wanted Em strung up for 'stealin' her man!

Were Gram and Emmy Lou in love?..........She always speaks so glowingly of Gram. Too bad Gram died so early. He would have contributed so much more to american music. Thanks for the posting, Oak.
