Let us all pause to remember this tragic event that happened on this date in 1975.

I did some research at the Rama Reserve in Ontario as a grad student. Rama is right next door to Gordon's hometown of Orillia. The Natives told stories of going to high school with Gordon. He has always had a great impact on my own music and I appreciate every song he ever wrote!

What can a person say about how great a entertainer this man is, a person can feel his music deep into their soul, it shall live forever within my heart

I work on Lake Erie on one of the ferry boats, and I experienced my first big storm this past weekend. I felt the full force of the North winds coming down from Canada, the swells were 4-9 foot rollers, and I could not imagine what it would be like on one of these freighters. It was pushing us around, throwing us in the air and slamming us down on just a ferry boat. The Great Lakes are just as dangerous or if not more dangerous than the oceans. Especially Lake Erie and Superior. I truly believe they are the two meanest lakes of all five. RIP to all the Captains and Crews who lost their lives on all the Great Lakes.

I was 9 when my mother was hearing about this and she was horrified to learn about it! It was a great ship! I listen to the song often and to me it's a memory that comes back to me as I listen to the song! It is a haunting song!

I remember the older folks in my family discussing this many times. We lived in New Jersey and this news hurt the souls of everyone alive, at the time. Tragic. Respect to Lightfoot for keeping it classy.

Saw Gord in concert in Denver in 1978 when I was visiting the USA. He is one of Canada's finest. Still love his music and listen to to his songs with admiration and enjoyment. Much respect from Australia.

This a beautiful song.  Please remember that several men lost their lives this day.  R.I.P. sailors.

It's a good lyrical song but the singing is repetitive and it could use a chorus.

On the 40th anniversary of the sinking, left wing liberal Overnight America radio host Jon Grayson ridiculed Gordon Lightfoot relentlessly, saying Lightfoot's only claim to fame was this song and 'Sundown'.
