Charted at #3 in Billboard in February 1950. From the movie of the same name starring Dana Andrews and Susan Hayward (pictured). Vocal by Sandy Evans. Released circa December 1949. Also #6 for Billy Eckstine in March 1950, #6 for Mindy Carson in April 1950, #15 for Margaret Whiting in May 1950, #21 for Richard Hayes in May 1950, #29 for Hugo Winterhalter in May 1950, #9 R&B for Gene Ammons and His Sextet in 1950 and #95 for The Demensions in March 1963.

Original Billboard review as a Billboard pick: "From a forthcoming flick, this winning title song, done in lavish but tasty Jenkins style, hits as a class ballad. String work, choir, a bass cleff piano intro and vibrant Sandy Evans solo warbling combine strikingly".

Written by Victor Young and Ned Washington.

The other side of this record is "Don't Do Something to Someone Else".

Sandy Evans also sang with Jimmy Dorsey and did other records for other labels. As far as I know, he is still alive; I wrote him a few years back c/o the Society of Singers and he wrote back. Didn't answer my questions about his career, but just thanked me for being a fan. I think he does a wonderful vocal on this! Thank you for posting!

yes Sandy Evans of the 40s, 50s was a male vocalist, he probably was using this name as a pseudonym. Anyway one can see his name printed on a 45 vinyl (a 1950 cover of "My Foolish Heart" by Gordon Jenkins and Chorus, Sandy Evans, soloist - DECCA Records / (45 - L 5219)* /<1950 HITS ARCHIVE: My Foolish Heart - Gordon Jenkins (Sandy Evans, vocal)>

I'm over 70, was a 6-7 yrs. old kid when this song was popular and was played 3-4 times/week on Radio Istanbul (Turkiye) by disc-jockeys. I was just an elementary school student (1st or 2nd grade), didn't speak English yet as it was quite before my access to an US High School in my country, though I lıked the tune very much couldn't sing the song as the lyrics were in English, but I remember that my 5 years older sister (a student in the English High School for Girls in Istanbul) used to sing it every now & then. Now I am very pleased to listen to this beautiful song again after so many years. A thousand thanks to you @CatsPjamas1 I do appreciate it.

Timeless and beautiful music from a timeless and beautiful film. Susan Hayward, who starred in "My Foolish Heart", and nominated for a 2nd Oscar for her performance in this film, was the very best. Thank you for posting.

I think he made some more records with Jenkins, but internet research turns up virtually nothing for me either.

Can anyone tell me more about who the hell Sandy Evans was?

Hmmm, damn confusing. I research music, and best I could find is Sandy Evans/Saxaphonist/male. No other reference to a Sandy Evans on youtube, Wiki, Google, or IMDB. So, I know a saxaphonist can't blow and sing at same time, and what...is this the only performance by some mystery vocalist named Sandy Evans? I did find one reference to a Sandy Evans "unknown female vocalist" for Jimmy Dorsey band on google...but no more specifics. Annoyingly weird!

Sandy can be a man or a woman's name. The male singer is named Sandy Evans, as far as I can tell from my research.

OK...so, I heard no female vocal, so It's not Sandy Evans...I'm guessing that was Gordon Jenkins singing.

Beautiful...Reminds me of my favorite orchestra OK-Dreamband. CD "Clarinet-Dreams" is available for download (iTunes, amazon).

I've loved this movie for more than 50 years ever since I first saw it as a boy and the song, along with "Isn't It Romantic?", is my all time favorite. And Gordon Jenkins's version is THE definite version of the song. What a shame that this wonderful movie with one of Susan's all time best performances and an enormous hit when it was released is not out on DVD.

To each his own. I have no problem with this version and love the orchestra.

This is not the original hit version by Carson of the winter of 1949 an 1950...though. Too bad. Why don't you dig that up and put that up instead? Take care, though; she did a remake of her own hit later in the 50's, and you don't want that either. Trust me, nothing tops THAT version; not Gordon Jenkins' here, nor Connie Francis there, etc. etc. They certainly don't. This version certainly does no justice.

Totally agree with you - this has been my favourite song since I saw the film as a child and SUSAN has been my favourite star ever since! She was SO beautiful and talented too - nobody can hold a candle to her on the screen and never will! Miss her so much.
