Steve plays the 'Made in Japan' (original vinyl 1973 version) guitar solo here. Nice!

Glenn Hughes' voice is so goddamn annoying - talk about over-singing and trying way too hard. Chickenfoot's version of this song is far better and more kick-ass, and Hagar destroys him with true sheer vocal power, not lame screechy falsetto.

Forget about doing a great cover. This is one of the greatest rock tracks I've ever heard in my life. I played over 4000 gigs between 1967 and 2001 so cut me some slack for my opinion. This cover should be on the next version of Voyager going out into interstellar space. Would probably buy some credibility for the human race against all our other garbage. All that's left is a version with both of the organ parts played for the organ break, either by double tracking or two keyboards live. I've yet to hear a version of that. All we have so far is Jon Lord doing it, though I'm sure he double tracked it in the studio, which is a fucking bitch to play anyway double tracked, forget about doing it live with each hand. And if you can do it in real time, post your damned vid on YouTube instead of saying it "should be easy" or some bullshit. I'm talking about the organ break with the harmony.I loved Vai doing Blackmore as 3 part harmony instead of 2 part harmony. No shy boy there.

I saw Ian gilliam at his prime, in "73", but as "KENNATIOUSC", said below. NO ONE, and I mean no one had the pipes of "GLENN HUGHES". NO ONE> He out did Coverdale, and anyone else he sang with at these many concerts. No one could out do Glenn......He went through some bad times, but kept that VOICE!!!!!! BUT, they were all good. Last concert I saw before "NAM" in "73". I went over late, but got to see PURPLE before I went..............Was something to leave the states BY!!!!!!!! They are in the Hall of fame, or did I hear someone say they weren't? geeeeze,,,,,,,,,,,,Purple the loudest band at one time. I was there in Cincinatti, when Guiness was there. What a concert, "BURN"!!!! OK, enough,,,,,,,,,I never say anything here, but Glenn, just two years ago with Joe Bonnamasa. "Black Country",,,,,,,,,Oh my God!!!!!!!

well......having been a guitar player all my adult life (30 years) I can, with hand on heart, say, imho, Stevie Vai is the dog's danglies, best I EVER heard and Glenn Hughes aint too shabby, either, by christ, he could carry a tune in a McDonalds bag.and make it sound sweet, legend!! EPIC!! 15 out of 10

Another great vocal performance marred by autotune/pitch correction where it is NOT needed. Why oh why?!?!?!?!? Bloody idiot studio engineers/producers these days, even reducing the greatness of Glenn Hughes' vocals, one of the best vocalists ever - who can sing in pitch, in time, in every part of his range...

Glenn's voice is still amazing after all these years. Can't say the same about Ian and David.

Just a "heads up" to everyone . . . this song is NOT on this CD. There two versions of this CD. One with 9 songs, and one with 10 songs. This is the 10th song. The album covers are almost identical. The difference is, the 9-song version says "Santana" to the right of "The Flaming Lips". The 10-song version says "Steve Vai" in that same place. I got screwed buying this CD based on this vid. This is the only song I wanted. Word to the wise.

If this was part of the ReMachined project, why on earth did we get the banal down-tuned Chiucken Foot version instead of this ace one? Love the references to MiJ from Vai.
