The album was recorded and released in 1987 after Harrison had taken a five-year hiatus ...Gossip, gossip, gossip, gossipI heard it in the night, words that thoughtless speakLike vultures swooping down below on the devil's radioI hear it through the day, airwaves gettin' filledWith gossip broadcast to and fro on the devil's radioOh yeah, gossip, gossip, oh yeahHe's in the clubs and bars and never turns it downTalking about what he don't know on the devil's radioHe's in your TV set, won't give it a restThat soul betraying so and so, the devil's radioGossip, gossip, gossip, gossipOh yeah, gossip, gossip, oh yeahGossip, oh yeah, oh yeah, gossipIt's white and black like industrial wastePollution of the highest degreeYou wonder why I don't hang out muchI wonder how you can't seeHe's in the films and songs and on all your magazinesIt's everywhere that you may go, the devil's radioOh yeah, gossip, gossip, oh yeahRuns thick and fast, no one really seesQuite what bad it can doAs it shapes you into something coldLike an Eskimo iglooIt's all across our lives like a weed it's spread'till nothing else has space to grow, the devil's radioCan creep up in the dark, make us hide behind shadesAnd buzzing like a dynamo, the devil's radioGossip, oh yeah, gossip, oh yeah, gossipGossip, gossip, gossip, oh yeah, gossipI heard you on Satan's wireless, gossip, oh yeahYou know the devil's radio, child, gossipGossip, gossip, gossip

I think this song is about how people sell themselves and each other out with misinformation. He uses these examples,(1) gossip on the radio at night, (2) gossip on the radio in the daytime, (3) gossip in the night clubs, (4) gossip on the TV and selling a story to sell someone out, (5) gossip in the teen magazines, (6) how it comes from everywhere and it can come at you while you sleep. If only he knew about Facebook, Google Plus and Twitter...

The thing I love about George is the fact that he's so humble he could be your next door neighbor, and yet he's a million times more genius than your average musician.

This was so prophetic of the coming cell phone culture. George's Muse speaks! Thanks for posting. Great sound.

Dear George, I hope you're getting e-mail on some type of Akashic app -- I not only hope you are o.k. "out there," but that you have achieved Buddhahood. Thanks for your slide guitar licks & everything else.

Love solo George. Always great lyrics and, oh, those sneaky naughty chords. Ha ha! Diminished and augmented type.

Great lyrics!! It's funny because I was just thinking about this who idea earlier today without ever knowing about this song and now I just-so-happened to find this song right now. Fuck gossiping. Though I'm not a big gossiper, I'm going to try to avoid gossiping entirely.

I think this song is about back in 1976 when the minnesota vikings beat the l.al rams in the playoffs i might be wrong but i read that in the Cooking for less calories cook book.

I think this song is a comment on how it's *always* been. The mediums have changed down the decades and centuries -- but this is a particular darker side of human nature. "You wonder why I don't hang out much I wonder how you can't see!" The press loved to call George a recluse. Paul once said something like 'Nah - George is not a recluse. He just hates and avoids the press.' This song articulates *why.* Brilliantly so. And it's also a great bit of rock n' roll, if that's all too heavy. ;)
