"The Silent Sun" is the premiere single by English rock band Genesis. It was written by Tony Banks and Peter Gabriel at a time when the band's potential producer, Jonathan King, was starting to lose interest. Knowing that King was a fan of the Bee Gees, Banks and Gabriel wrote the song specifically to recapture his attention. The band was signed and the song was released as a single on 2 February 1968 (some publications refer to 22 February 1968 - not proved). They would soon begin work on their debut album, From Genesis to Revelation.

FROM GENESIS TO REVELATION may not be SELLING ENGLAND BY THE POUND but it is a hell of a good record and a great starting point... with melodic and great 60's styled tunes that only Banks, Phillips, Rutherford and Gabriel know how to write.

I had only years ago heard a small snippet of that song from that Genesis- A History video (VHS)..very cool hearing a VERY early Genesis and of course the whole song
