The string section always reminded me of the Bee Gees "Massachusetts." At one time I have over 30 of Gene's albums, but whittled them down to a hard core 15. This is certainly a song that should have been a hit in 1968. Much better than the rather frantic"She's A Heartbreaker." Gene was certainly one of the greatest male vocalists of the 60's, along with Roy Orbison and Del Shannon.10 years ago
