No Other lyrics

All alone you say

That you don`t want no other

So the Lord is love

And love is like no other

If the falling tide

Can turn and then recover

All alone we must

Be part of one another

All alone you say

The power is perfection

Is the power peace

Or merely the connenction

To the God of Love

That powers the protection

From the tide of life

That flows in each direction

When the stream of changing days

Turns around in so many ways

Then the pilot of the mind

Must find the right direction

Un chef-d'oeuvre du folk rock américain des années 70. Quand la musique est sincère, profonde, qu'elle vient du cœur, ça ne peut que me toucher.

I remember going down south to Torquay to work a summer season..1975..Out on a limb..looking for a job..I hit this record shop just to get warm..and they had this Album on..this track has stayed with me forever..

The story of addiction usually ends in one of two ways. In Gene Clark's case it was, predictably, in the worst of these. The (popular) music business is riddled with this outcome. There was a similar program on BBC4 about Townes Van Zandt - another celebrated (and over-rated) slow suicide. As someone who's of the generation which brought The Byrds to fame and listened to their early work constantly I can only say that, as best I recall, I never heard a single track by Gene Clark other than from the "Dillard and Clark" album - of which I can remember little except the name. Not usually a good sign, that...The BBC4 program, whilst slightly interesting, contained nothing at all that made me want to investigate his post-Byrds work. Watching those later clips of the re-formed Byrds warbling their attempts to manufacture a new career were just toe-curlingly embarrassing.A great band in their original incarnation and at their peak though.

Ok, don't be hatin' but there's no hook here. Yes, good vocals, super playing, decent production values but without touring to support it, you can't expect airplay. No airplay and no single to get people to take a listen to the whole LP. Deadly combination for commercial success. I'm 61, lived in NYC in the 60's and 70's and NEVER heard any Gene Clark solo on the radio. Without a single and without coming to town on tour, why would radio programmers play the LP? A shame, really.

Oh man...this song sends me! A local free-form rock radio station used to play this song back in '74...what an excellent song. Alas, the station is long gone, but the song lives on here on YT. Thanks for the post.

Interested to hear the natural voice. Too much echo or whatever it is. Sounds out of this world in the worst possible way.

Gene Clark was part of California's finest. It was he and Skip Spence from Moby Grape who helped roll up a sound for all of us to smoke.

Still think that the Clark/Crosby summit that never was could've saved the greatest band of all from McGuinn's crowd-pleasing Untitled abominations!
