Just a correction on the date. This was July 8, 1980. Ontario Place in Toronto. It was the first concert I had ever been to.

@papadoorunrun Couldn't find "DMC" on Netflix, but just queued up "One Last Ride". Were you boys associated with that movie as well?

@papadoorunrun Donnie, you'd know; you worked along side him for so long. I am sure you were witness to all the ups and downs. I think I saw this lineup around the era of this shooting. (Alameda County Fair) My lack of maturity at that time caused me to look at Jan as just a distraction on stage. I would later come to appreciate what you have written above. Saw you boys (PDRR) January in Modesto. Still luv ya as much as the first time in high school in '76!

Wow! I saw J&D with PPDRR at Disneyland in 1979 and Brian Wilson came out and played Barbara Ann on bass dressed in a robe! It was a great moment for me, but most in the audience didn't realize it.

@pfgbrian, On that age thing, I'm right there with you. Papa Doo Run Run played at one of our high school dances in 1974, but it was the year our high school opened and our yearbook staff did not get a picture of the band (just the people dancing). However, PDRR was such a hit, that we wanted them back ASAP. Unfortunately, based on a note I had written in my 1975 yearbook (which I pulled out for a friend's 50th birthday last month), "Papa Doo Run Run" was not available for our next dance! ; )

@narcovice, as i posted to @papadoorunrun, even that near-fatal crash didn't cause jan to slow down. he loved music and living life to the fullest. so, my guess would be that, if he had had an opportunity it to do all over again, jan would fight the draft board once again.

It is great to see the old Papa band on You Tube. I followed Papa Doo through the Disney years. I was 16 yrs old when I met everyone, lets just say I am a baby boomer. The last time I saw the band was at the Valencia Town Center in Valencia, CA during the summer concert program. My husband really enjoyed the show, he laughed at me because got so in to it again. Thanks for all the memories.

Actually, Jan did more than you see in this video. This particular song features Papa Doo Run Run. I'll try to put one up featuring Jan. 15 years after his accident, Jan still had good days and bad, but he was always there, would never give up, and always gave it everything he had. You won't find many artists today with that kind of courage and strength. - Don Z - PDRR

Thanks for your reply, I'm looking forward to seeing some of Jan in action, post-crash. I remember seeing him a long time ago on Sha Na Na's show. The crap I used to watch in the 70's!!!

Poor Jan... I was looking for a vid that had some of him performing after his crash... I noticed he really wasn't doing much here aside from bumping into people, not even singing... really sad that one of the best minds in producing was reduced to that.
