Many classic compositions were turned into pop songs. Without taking the time to look up the original compositions there were "Stranger in Paradise", the Platters' "Where", which was also the basis of the Vibrations "Story of a Starry Night" which was done by many others, Elvis' "It's Now Or Never" and countless others.. All the songs were good, maybe not as good as the original compositions, but they all worked out well.

Freddy Martin turned the classics into hits! Loved Merv Griffin singing as a very young nan with Freddy in the late 40,s and early 50,s

Bigband Lou

The reason Freddy Martin recorded this was because of the songwriters strike in 1942,It was the beginning of the end of the Bigband Era.The great vocalist and sax player Elmer Feldkamp was long gone by this time.

@uncutblond36 I completely agree with you. It's recordings like this that introduced me to classical music.

@MrDmc44111 this "sterile garbage" kept this piece familiar with an audience who couldn't care less about it otherwise... open your mind...My big band and I have played this "sterile garbage" for many people who had no idea what it was.....

Soo nice. Tchaik would love it. And so do I. My Dad loved the Big Band music sound. Too bad some people have to be A-holes. If it weren't for this, I wouldn't know what the f a Tchaikovsky was. So SHUT UP, elitist pigs && enjoy this. You don't have to listen to this if you don't want to. Assholes.....

The Sad Sam Blues Jam

Does anyone who played with Freddy remember my father, Robert Hunter? He was a pianist that toured with him in the 50's and 60's I believe. My dad was Greoges Montabla...if you know that whole crazy story. Looking for any info on where my dad played. I know he toured with and played at the Coconut Grove.
