written for/first performed in 'It Happened In Brooklyn' (1947) - here's the more swinging studio take frank cut for the record-buying public, from a time when New York was so beautiful, it deserved to be sung about.

This music is more my style--or, rather, my dad's, and it rubbed off on me:Sinatra was his absolute favorite singer.Heard this yesterday on Pandora while I was floating around on nitrous in the dentist's chair--

good point - frank did seem to impart a great sort of NY atmosphere with his early recordings that faded as he moved out west. i think that's a big part of why, in spite of my deep affection for 'In the Wee Small Hours', i favor these Columbia sides.

what a bridge!!!, we here in metro Vancouver would have to look at our Burrard Street Bridge to compare bridges, of coarse the Brooklyn Bridge would win out...we also have a Pattullo Bridge and a Lions Gate Bridge which were built back in the day. Most of the 15 bridges around this metropolis look or are newer, from the older Port Mann (1962) to the Iron Memorial(1959) to the Oak Street Bridge to the newer Port Mann (2012/13) we have 'em all...PREETY BRIDGES AND THE BASIC STRAIGHT ON BRIDGE.

...that evening I was leaving back home and on the way to JFK, the cab driver, instead of driving all the way up to e.g. the Queensboro Bridge (like most drivers do), took the Brooklyn Bridge...if things have a "soul" of their own, no wonder that the bridge wished to say "see you later" to me, in its own way... Cheers!

Hi again! I spent last week in NYC on business and on Saturday afternoon, as I was staying in the financial district area, I decided to go visit my beloved bridge...it was really magic, in the morning the day had been chilly and overcast...went to Pier 17 and saw her with that misty outfit...all of a sudden a faint sunbeam went through the clouds and was the prelude of a sunny afternoon that led me to also "plant my feet" on the Brooklyn Bridge. Unforgettable... (continue reading)
