The song and singer are really good, but why they changed the lyrics?

i like the composition of this one with the slow part but why the lyric change, plus he still says Tipperary so its kinds odd to have Irish and american places mixed together but overall i liked it. So güd ja.

Ha Ha, my grandfather used to tell us a very long, elaborate story of a man who got the cutest pet (sort of a cross between a cat and a dog) and asked the pet-store what kind of animal it was.  They told him it was a Rary.  The Rary had beautiful eyes and soft fur, but just got bigger and bigger.  Eventually he could not fit the Rary in the house, so he built a second house for the Rary but eventually the Rary was so big, he had to bring a truck, put the Rary on a forklift and drive to the nearest cliff, where he threw the Rary over the cliff.  He loved his Rary but couldn't afford him or house him anymore.  He tipped him over the edge. Then he sang his mournful song: It's a long way to Tip a Rary...

I saw him in a small theatre back in the late 80's. His performance was wonderful and he was a really nice fellow, he stayed and chatted to the audience for quite awhile after the show.

Erin Go Bragh! Ireland forever ! What a beautiful melodramatic song! It gave the soldiers hope and anticipation to fight through the war so they could get home to their girlfriends. There's a very funny scene in the WW2 submarine film "Das Boot" The Boat" (it's one of the selections to listen to after this song). The German Mariners go through a terrible time as it seem the depth charges were going to rip the ship apart. They finally surface, to hear this song, barely and sing along with it.
