(Comments would be much appreciated!)

This a demo for the song "Little Lies", which appears on the 1987 Fleetwood Mac album "Tango in the Night", and was penned by Christine McVie and Eddy Quintela, her then husband. The demo was recorded during the 1986/7 "Tango in the Night" sessions, and seems to be a demo in which the harmonies are focused upon.

The demo is quite different from the polished album version, as well as the lyric change in the chorus - 'You can try, you can try and disguise' which later became 'Oh no, no, no, you can't disguise'. Lindsey Buckingham's guitar is also more prominent amongst the heavily synthesised instrumentation.

The pictures I have used are Fleetwood Mac throughout the years, starting from 1975 when Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham joined to "The Dance" era in 1997, after which Christine McVie resigned from the band.

Enjoy your listening!

LYRICS (for the completed version)

If I could turn the page

In time then I'd rearrange just a day or two

Close my, close my, close my eyes

But I couldn't find a way

So I'll settle for one day to belive in you

Tell me, tell me, tell me lies

Tell me lies

Tell me sweet, little lies

(Tell me lies, tell me, tell me lies)

Oh, no, no you can't disguise

(You can't disguise, no you can't disguise)

Tell me lies

Tell me sweet little lies

Although I'm not making plans

I hope that you understand there's a reason why

Close your, close your, close your eyes

No more broken hearts

We're better off apart, let's give it a try

Tell me, tell me, tell me lies

Tell me lies

Tell me sweet, little lies

(Tell me lies, tell me, tell me lies)

Oh, no, no you can't disguise

(You can't disguise, no you can't disguise)

Tell me lies

Tell me sweet little lies

[Instrumental]

If I could turn the page

In time then I'd rearrange just a day or two

Close my, close my, close my eyes

But I couldn't find a way

So I'll settle for one day to belive in you

Tell me, tell me, tell me lies

Tell me lies

Tell me sweet little lies

(Tell me lies, tell me, tell me lies)

Oh, no, no you can't disguise

(You can't disguise, no you can't disguise)

Tell me lies

Tell me sweet little lies

(Tell me lies, tell me, tell me lies)

Oh, no, no you can't disguise

(You can't disguise, no you can't disguise)

Tell me lies

Tell me sweet little lies

(Tell me, tell me lies)

Absolutely loved this. Little Lies is one of my favorite all time songs and hearing this just makes it fresh and new. Kudos for posting!

Great demo, I prefer this stripped down approach. I think Tango is a little 'over produced' and hopefully their new work has a little harder edge like Lindsey's performance with NIN & QOTSA at the Grammys.

Couldn't agree more ! "Tango in the Night" was a huge hit, especially given the fact that Fleetwood Mac had been gone for 5 years, but the band is always overlooking it. Ditto for "Mirage". They need to remaster it and to include bonus tracks - besides, the audio quality of the currently available CD is crappy.

Wow! Everyone knows that C. McVie was one of the leads on this song, and this is the band's version before the producer got his hands on it. It still sounds pretty amazing, and the comment it sounds like ABBA is pretty true. Thanks for sharing it, I love it!

@jobjock Stevie's voice was added in the choruses - saying "tell me lieeees" just before the final cut was made. She was in rehab when most of the album as being made, and came out towards the end of Little Lies' recording/creation. The band almost unanimously decided that Stevie's voice had to be in there somewhere, but Lindsey Buckingham disagreed and went on a 'break'

My daughter bought me a FM video for Christmas one year where Lindsey actually loads up the reels and slides faders up and down on the mixing console as he talks about Rumors and how some of the songs were witten. It is interesting. If you like this. You may also like that video(don't recall the name).

@jobjock My understanding is Stevie was in rehab for most of the recording of Tango? And that the album was mostly finished, then when she got out the rest of the band members (especially Mick) insisted she was added to the record. Also that Lindsey felt as a result the record was compromised and that's why he left the band? Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong though.

@curtis8516 I don't think so, it's only a demo so the sound's not going to be superb. It's not a master or anything.
