Fantastic track from the Viva Dead Ponies album by The Fatima Mansions, the last band that dared to matter. Superb guitar solo by Aindrias O'Gruama. Brought to you simply to encourage interest in the band - if you like it, buy the album. Every track is fantastic. Enjoy.

"Defiantly erudite, feverishly intelligent" - Andrew Mueller. And unrepentantly political, The Mansions said what they wanted to say and didn't care who they offended. The true incendiary spirit of rock 'n' roll in other words. How we could do with them around these days.

Im attacking the ones who are weakest of all,

on their dim walk to work

with their eyes slit so small,

but the dawn and the path and their shekels all mine,

fortune wont smile I must be brutal or die.

Now I live by the railway with the rest of the coven

in a hovel vibrating, lit by tandoori ovens

where we keep the ransomees.

We get raided on Fridays, we get drunk when they leave us,

we discuss ways to die, ways we could have gone wrong.

We dont mention the now, we can see no way out,

we draw skulls on the walls, we draw blood from our balls,

we play catch with the rats but the silence wont crack,

though we heave and we hack.

Look what I stole,

look what I stole for us, darling.

Look what I stole.

Maybe were dead, I forgot.

Theyre hunting us so maybe not.

Oh let us mention her torso: heat, electrical chaos

if it bursts she would die oh, oh, oh.

Wasnt it kind of her to let me in?

Will it get fat when she's older? Get all riddled with cancer?

While she stays the same person whos fucking me now.

See the view from above of the sofa of love

with the roof cut away, cars and people out there,

with the stains spreading out and our blood running cold.

Look what I stole,

look what I stole for us, darling.

Look what I stole,

look what I stole for us, darling.

We used to be human beings - not any more.

Ill have her washed and brought to you

so you, my wife, can know her too.

Thanks Hawk. Great to meet other enthusiasts on here. Yeah the 1st UK pressing of Viva Dead Ponies was lousy - thin weedy sound. I heard the US release sounded better but mutilated some tracks here and there. This is from the reissued version of VDP with the 2nd CD "Best of" included. Thanks again for the comment :) Peter

I'm the first fucking comment?? Angry. I love how you have this song properly mixed together apart from the discouragingly-mixed-and-sequenced version on the first pressing.
