OK this was pretty bad. Why the hell does Ricky Martin sing Che in an American accent?

I wish that they had showcased Elena... This was VERY underwhelming

I see the Tony Awards decided to showcase Ricky Martin more than Elena Roger. I saw this show on Broadway and I thought Ricky Martin was great in it. Still, I think Antonio Banderas made the best narrator/Che best of all.

If you know a little about Evita, then you know she gave employment, tools sewing machines, credits, and advices, and she did that in person. She and no other person dealed with the people. And she did that more than 12 hours per day. You can criticise her, maybe, but you have to show the truth. This is pure invention.

I love Evita and have seen a few versions of the production .. but Antonio Banderas certainly made the role of Che and I've yet to seen anyone top it.

why make a musical about some facist. Just cause she might have had some good intentions she was married to a dictator who had to be pulled away from his love of Hitler.

Because I was born and raised in Latin America, I studied Eva Perón, and the Argentinian government. She was a very inspiring woman who helped the poor people mostly in Argentina. Sadly, I have a feeling that this musical (specifically this song) portrays Eva as a woman who just gave money away like it was nothing.

Also, if you listen to ALW's concept album you'll hear exactly how this part should have been sung. Patti is the only one who sings it in the original tempo and keys, with the original intentions. Moreover, I don't think the fact that Elena Roger is from Argentina has anything to do with her portrayal of Eva, it does not make her performance better than the others. But anyway, it's a musical, not a biographical piece with the pretension of accuracy, so I guess it comes down to a matter of taste.

I have read many biographies on Eva Peron. I do agree Patti was amazing in the part. I think she represented Eva exactly as we saw Eva in the late 70's. But saying she captured Eva better than Elena Roger is a pretty weak argument. Elena truly had the soul of Argentina with her on that stage and has grown up living with the affects of the Peron's most of her life. That is why I don't agree with you. I still respect your opinion though because you did not hate on anyone! So thanks for that. :)
