Don't F-ing upload stuff claiming it's Eddie when it's clearly NOT Eddie playing. The person playing here is God.

This IS the sound . If you play rock or metal guitar and this doesn't make you smile and your heart speed up...you are not really a guitarist.

As cool as these isolated tracks are, to hear the guitar better without everything brewing around it..what would really be cool is to have everything BUT the guitar. That way us guitarists can fill in. When you try to play along, it's hard/impossible to hear YOU and so allot of our playing along goes either much better or much worse than we perceive. I guess drummers singers and bassists would also like this done - what they do. Those re-hash releases (Jimi) have run out of ideas, there would be a small but cult like following. I just don't get off on those "jam track" cds, tried many of them, they fall flat and make you feel like your conversing with a wall.

vanity fair has a fairly recent interview ed did and i remember an old guitar player mag with an interview in it. of course both mags asked guitar influence questions. ed sed he didnt really like page so much as a guitarist but as a composer of songs. people forget ed was a composer that completed the songs. lots of them. in a reasonably short time. rember southern california in the 70s spawned a lot of crazy folks and eds work ethic and genetics allowed him be where he went. in other words others would probably hurt themselves trying to follow any of the bands members act. and many did, like johnny winter, joe walsh and those other guys oh yeah the eagles and steve miller and allmans and on and on.

Even on the clean, quiet part, his tone is beautiful.

@1971SuperLead ... Agreed Hendrix & Page were influences on Ed as well as many others. My comment was aimed at a commenter that obviously couldn't make a connection from all the blazing talented current players & in the last 25yrs to the profound influence of Ed's speed, tone, melody and general "hard rock/bluesy feel and metal aggression. I think Ed invented things on a much larger scale than his predecessors. Current hard rock and lots of metal bands are clearly shooting for that same guitar/solo magic that Van Halen, Rhoads, Lynch, Jake E.Lee, Vaughn, Albert Lee, DiMeola and Malmsteen brought to the planet. I call this group of players among a few others "fire starters". They started a epic inferno. Their riffs are way harder to master than the great players before them. Nothing new since these guys(fire starters) has come about- other than the inventive style of Korn, AIC and couple other alternative groups. Clapton Page Beck Hendrix and Chet Atkins, Billy Gibbons and Tony Iommi are the "gods" group. Sorry so long! I just love this topic and get all heeled out haha
