Balakirev in my opinion is too underrated. Islamey and this is absolutely gorgeous. Harmonically, technically (in terms of difficulty) and the layout (form) of the composition flows very smoothly. Chopin and Balakirev are 2 of my favorite Romantic composers. Gonna learn this piece for ARCT probably

Lovely bautiful piece- inspired me to learn it! But I'm quite surprised that Kissin made an important error in bar 55-he didn't play the really crucial C flat :( it makes that moment really tense and he played C sharp which just makes the harmony standard and not tense... ah well it ws quite subtle 4:17

Such a lovely piece, so delicately played by Kissin. Dare I say that Tchaikovsky must have been aware of this music when he wrote his wonderful First Piano Concerto? There are some influences in the piano writing. And who else could take such a Russian folk-tune melody and decorate it so wonderfully? Very beautiful and that you for the post.

Someday, before I die (I am age 70), I would like to hear the entire set of piano pieces from which this work came.

Painfully romantic. Kissin's execution is, as usual, flawlessly sublime. A difficult piece to learn but well worth it.
