by Bonnie Bramlett and Eric Clapton:

You say you want everything good for me,

But I know so well, I can tell when you're lying.

Making believe you're looking up to me,

And I'm just sitting here, crying.

And I don't know why,

I don't know why,

I don't know why I don't care.

You'll go on back to him, he'll take you in.

I know he's gonna love you, but I still want you back again,

'Cause baby you're part of me, it's deep inside of you.

When he's done all he can, you'll come running to your other man, oh yeah.

Chorus

I know you won't soon forget last night.

Your precious love was all over me, but it's all right.

Go on and try again but you know nothing's gonna change.

That's the way it's gonna be, oh yeah.

That's not a picture of Stevie Winwood-that's Eric when he was in the Dominos-I know every hairdo he had and that's one of them.

I stand corrected. BTW I think he made his best music with Brownie.

I believe that, it sounds like his writing style. Bobby used to play in Oxford, MS. where I first saw him. Get to see him on tour here in Austin, too. I'll send your regards, Garrett.

Wrong. He wrote it with two other people---Delaney and Bonnie Bramlett. Called co-writers.....

Ain't it awful?! I feel somewhat guilty every time I think of his best period as a writer (i.e., post-Cream, pre-"461 Ocean Blvd") as the years he suffered severe addiction problems (booze and, especially, heroin) while thinking: "it would be worth his going back to smack (and to hanging out with southern songwriters) and STOP writing boring, shitty tunes! A LITTLE guilty, you understand, until I re-listen to "Derek and the Dominos," "Eric Clapton," and "On Tour With Delaney and Bonnie."

actually, it was Delaney and Eric who wrote this song....Delaney had to give Bonnie the writing credits because I believe he was avoiding paying taxes...But it was written by Delaney....Bobby Whitlock told me that himself...

a laid back drunk of a talented song writer eric was at the time. his later soberness didn't do his work any good.

@franciscosuman Yeah, I saw a picture of clapton at that time and it is Eric, but that picture looks so much like Stevie Winwood when he played guitar.

@elgrovez13 This is Eric Clapton, not Stevie. Look at his nose, man. Also, the picture is from the Derek & The Dominos days, just compare with the video of It's Too Late at the Johnny Cash Show.

Great song from a great album. The picture is of Steve Winwood by the way. Looks about his Blind Faith Days so that would be Claptonish.

I was a kid (18) when this came out and I got the album. Had a breakup with my 1st love (lust?) Played the grooves out of this song...hearing it again the first few words brought back that feeling....amazing
