Thank you especially for the lyrics! Throughout the song he sounds like he's slurring the lyrics - so the inclusion is much appreciated.

Is the organ solo on this played by Elton? It sounds almost like Danny Federici.

In the USA, it was the B-Side of I Guess That's Why They Call it the Blues. I know because I have that particular single.

It actually annoys me that this gem wasn't put on an album. This song did not deserve to be a B side. It's better than many songs on the Fox and Jump Up albums. At least this song was put as a bonus track on the Too Low for Zero album.

One of the top tracks from the 1979 session! Great lyrics from Bernie. B-side of "I Guess That's Why They Called it the Blues" here in the USA. This is one of the few of these that are now on CD. Thanks for the upload!

Having heard darn near everything Elton has ever released dozens and hundreds of times, I have to say this might be my favorite Bernie Taupin lyric. Wonderful! I actually bought the 45 of "Princess" when it came out in 1980, and loved this song.

Amazing how this could have fit right onto "Tumbleweed Connection"

I love this song. I'm the daughter of a Military Man. My dad is a retired Marine. How appropriate for Veterans Day. I listen to the lyrics and think to myself. How appropriate for all veterans retired as well as those currently serving our country.

I enjoy your videos so much! I was just reminded of this song today. It is beautifully written with Bernie's lyrics, Elton's music and of course Elton sings it beautifully! Thank you!

I am doing a soundtrack for a book report on a book about the battle of gettysburg, and this is the perfect song to represent General Lee's retreat from the town

This is one of Elton's hidden gems. Its a shame a song like this goes unnoticed by people.

@amtlpaul Tt was not rejected. It was chosen as a B-side for a single. That's not rejection.

This is a great song - wonder why it was rejected.

One of the best songs that very few people have heard. I loved this song since it first came out as I have bought every album Elton has come out with. Bernies words Eltons music is a leathal weapon no one can match. I now some peole will take that the wrong way, many people have written great music together but Elton and Bernie have written so many great great songs together one else has can say that. Yea Lennon and McCartney you will say but they actually didnt write together,
