Hard to believe that this album is almost 40 years old. It is as sonically current as anything you will hear today. Talk about real staying power and real talent. Elton John has it in spades. I remember getting this album in 1977 as a 17 year old. "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" will always be one of my favorite albums but I believe "Blue Moves" is one of Elton's best performed albums. Absolutely, musically magnificent.

This is one of his best songs. Elton was in the doldrums after Blue Moves, no wonder it was a pretty heavy record. The mood was low all round, then he came bouncing back with another great LP 'A Single Man'.

It's a superb song, full of color and imagery that stays with you for a long time. So glad you posted this.

Excellent song from a fantastic, overlooked album. The whole of side one is absolute perfection.

On the song Someone Saved my Life Tonight. When it was on the radio, and he said Damn it! I would turn the volume down, because I didn't think my parents would want me listening to him. How times have changed!

He hits all the high notes on the song on the 1985-1986 tour (up to Madrid 1986). After Madrid, he started conserving his voice.

Good post, for sure; I didn't realize he'd even toured behind Blue Moves. He had a period of laying low after his "I'm bi" interview in Rolling Stone. I guess that period began after the tour ended. Not a great tune, but one of the best from what was a thin double album. The arrangement might benefit from less emphasis on the dated-sounding keys and the tuned percussion that's too dominant at times. Just cut Davey loose, since he's the real balls behing the whole thing anyway.

I've always loved Elton John. His music has gotten me through a lot of tough times. Thanks, Elton.

A few people these days talk about the superiority of vinyl records. I remember, I got this album the day it came out, and both records sounded like crap. Pops and hisses and a big lump on one of them. The record store wouldn't take it back and exchange it. If I would have known what I know today, I would have known not to accept that , No refunds doesn't mean no replacement of defective items. When I finally heard this album on CD is was like - whoa! that's great.
