Elton John performs "I'm Still Standing" and "Candle In the Wind" live at the Farm Aid concert in Indianapolis, Indiana on April 7th, 1990. He dedicates "Candle in the Wind" to Ryan White, who died the following day. Farm Aid was started by Willie Nelson, Neil Young and John Mellencamp in 1985 to keep family farmers on the land and has worked since then to make sure everyone has access to good food from family farmers. Dave Matthews joined Farm Aid's board of directors in 2001.

Farm Aid's performances are donated by the artists in order to raise funds and raise awareness for family farmers. They've raised their voices to help — what can you do?

この2曲のメドレーは珍しいが後者はライアン・ホワイト君に捧げている。ファンではない人も多くいた筈だが観客はとても暖かく迎えている。サー・エルトン・ジョン、68歳の誕生日おめでとう! #HappyBirthday #EltonJohn #CaptainJP

Elton was obviously emotionally distraught in this performance. But played "Candle in the Wind" perfectly for Ryan. This was the first time Elton ever played that song for someone who was near death (or in death) aside from Marilyn Monroe. He played it perfectly again at Diana's funeral (in 1997).He also played "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me" perfectly for Matthew Shepard in Charlotte, NC on October 13th, 1998 ( a concert I attended).Never think Elton John is an amateur at anything. He is one of the few remaining masters of music we can all enjoy in our lifetimes.

Actually, I think he deliberately scatted the last line of the chorus to "I'm Still Standing" because saying "I'm still standing after all the time, picking up the pieces of my life without you on my mind" while trying to be inspirational to Ryan White would have been insensitive. Perhaps this is also why he changed midway through to something more somber like "Candle In The Wind." Then again, he may have been stressed out.

Michael Jackson was supposed to play that night, but didn't, but Elton John made at the last minute, this show was for the farmers, but ended as the show or concert for Ryan White. R.I.P

I once saw elton john saying on tv that he was out of control since 70's to 1990 so after this same show he wanted to clean his spirit and blood out, Ryan White was a great example of living for elton john, plus I didn't know that Ryan White died that same night!...RIP...cheers for everyone from Barquisimeto-Venezuela

Elton was obviously inebriated here, but man he still delivered with Candle in the Wind.

Ryan died that night, Elton was clearly messed up after spending the week at his bedside... RIP Ryan and thank god Elton cleaned himself up... not a dry eye in the hoosier dome by the end of Candle in the wind.

Finally a great copy with great acoustics. I was at the Hoosier Dome that day/night. The sound in the Hoosier Dome was terrible. It bounced of the top of the dame and depending on where you were sitting you got reverb. I was lower deck about 50 yards from the stage or more and the quality was bad bad bad

Amazing video. What a vulnerable time for Elton. So cool to see him get through it with music. Thanks for sharing!

He forgot some lyrics because he was really stressed that day (he had been all that week with the Whites in a hospital close to that venue - Ryan died later that night indeed :( Luckily, this marked the beginning of Elton's rehab :)

Singing "I'm still standing" wasn't very appropriate at that time... because he was not still standing... not at all... forgot half of his own songs while he was playing... very sad time... but it's great to see him nowadays... full of energy... :)
