Yes on average most metal fans would definitely think this music to be too soft. However, I'm a big metal head and yet I think that Dio's stuff with Elf is better than a lot of his metal and hard rock music.

But I can see metal fans not particularly caring for ELF. To me, Dio's career truly began with the first Rainbow album in 1975. Dio didn't start writing about fantasy, the occult, and the dark side of life until he started working with Ritchie Blackmore. Keep in mind, Dio never performed any ELF songs live during his solo years.
