She wrecks a beautiful song by screeching. Pity, because she has a nice voice but this is overdone sad to say. Karen Mathieson is better.

Eddi should be banned from singing in public and a new law instigated so that she is only allowed to sing for me !!! What perfection. Poor old Oswald Wellman is definately not a well man if he doesn't like Eddi. She has made Rabbie's songs sound perfect, but the feeling in her voice - I'm a huge hairy ex-Serviceman, but I'm not afraid to say that whenever I hear her, the perfection brings tears to my eyes. The only other singer who does that to me is Karen Matheson - when I listen to Ay Waukin O with the two of them together - well, it costs me a fortune in paper hankies. Love this music !!!

This is one of the most beautiful poems ever written (in my view) by Scottish poet and lyricist Robbie Burns ( 1759-1796)Below is the poem "Ae Fond Kiss" followed by a song by Scottish singer/songwriter Eddi Reader. Ae fond kiss, and then we sever; Ae fareweel, and then for ever!Deep in heart-wrung tears I'll pledge thee, Warring sighs and groans I'll wage thee. Who shall say that Fortune grieves him, While the star of hope she leaves him? Me, nae cheerful twinkle lights me; Dark despair around benights me. I'll ne'er blame my partial fancy, Naething could resist my Nancy: But to see her was to love her; Love but her, and love for ever. Had we never lov'd sae kindly, Had we never lov'd sae blindly, Never met-or never parted, We had ne'er been broken-hearted. Fare-thee-weel, thou first and fairest! Fare-thee-weel, thou best and dearest! Thine be ilka joy and treasure, Peace, Enjoyment, Love and Pleasure! Ae fond kiss, and then we sever! Ae fareweel alas, for ever! Deep in heart-wrung tears I'll pledge thee, Warring sighs and groans I'll wage thee.

Why unrequited? And it is the finest love song in English-maybe because none ever put music to Johnn Donne. We should al be happy over Eddi's rendition.Politically we do not need her-but as a singer and interpreter she is outstanding!

Repeating myself(not unheard of!) Burns and Donne are very similar in their treatment and evocation of sensual love. For their times (which were two hundred years apart) surely they took great risks-and got away with it.This shows how liberal and free the English and Scottish environment has always been.Do please stay that way,and in the Union!!

I think this is the most beautiful song I have heard in years & it is because of this woman's voice... The emotions she puts into it.. I have not heard better for Ae Fond Kiss Thank you Eddi! <3 <3 <3

For me , this is the definitive version of this song. Beautiful, heartfelt words, wrapped in a beautiful melody by an immaculate interpreter of Burns songs. I never tire of it.

This "pop" version is wilful destruction of a beautiful love song .Burns turns in his grave. How could any Scot do this? Are we to get a rap version next ? A wise poet once said,"poor souls with stunted vision oft measure giants by their narrow gauge".Well maybe I'm a poor soul, but Eddi is no giant whereas McKellar is.

Burns being a man in the times, played to an audience. Love had nothing to do with his words.Burns wrote to fill the desires of women an a fond kiss was written to fill the emptiness of no kiss.Burns targeted women weak in the times and was not the bard he is meant to be.Burns was only famous for 4 or 5 well known songs or poems.Scottish yes and lover not he was opportunist, poor and a farmer, scots should never be looked atin the light and an example today, We can see the bard for what he was. Some would be constant to be one hit wonders.

Heard this song sang last night on Commonwealth Closing Ceremony and it wasn't a patch on your amazing performance at New Year a fair few years back.As soon as the commonwealth version finished I watched your version again, can't see this ever being topped, perfect in every way.
