Indeed, we miss him. I remember the first time I saw and heard him. He was playing with Moe Koffman in Stratford. I was new to Stratford and didn't know who Ed was. He walked out on stage and sat down, and my reaction was sorta "ho hum" ... until he started playing! When he really got going, I wondered how the hell he did it. Still do.

Ed and Jim Hall are my favorite "traditional" jazz guitarists- I'm very fond of the guitarists they inspired as well- John Scofield, Pat Metheny, Bill Frisell, and Mike Stern-

Some of my best musical experiences have been listening live to Ed's different trios. Good call on naming Claude Ranger on drums! I was wondering if that was him or not.

He was one of a kind. he made you think there were 2 guitar players playing on Pure Desmond. To see this footage of him is truly inspiring. Thanks for posting.

It seems none of the guitarists here have commented on his right hand nails. They are manicured in the style of a classical guitarist, not easy to maintain playing steel strings. This has a lot to do with both his precision and his tonality while still playing with a pick. Personally, I play with fingertips and thumb, a personal choice. On a technical level, I thought that was worth noting.
