I love this version of this song. Dusty had such a great range of styles with her songs. A great voice that just got better and better. Sadly missed.

Knowing what we do now about this beautiful chanteuse adds poignancy to her heartfelt rendition of this old classic .

Some crazy- I mean really CRAZY sentiments expressed here. OK so Dionne recorded it first, and had a hit in US and other countries, Cilla had a big hit in UK. Dusty's version was on an LP, not released as a single. Let's face the fact Dionne and Dusty were career singers, by the end of the 60's Cilla was focusing more on all-round entertainment. If you prefer Cilla's version, Good luck to you. Also Good Luck to you if you prefer Dionne's. I prefer Dusty's because I prefer Dusty as a singer. However at the time I enjoyed Cilla' s and Dionne's. Whoever version you prefer- that's fine, no need to bad mouth anyone else's. Love Dusty and everything she did!

I love Dusty, but for me in order to top the original hit maker you've got to either crush it or personalize the arrangement, neither was done here. So for "me" Dionne rules this tune. But I still love Dusty, she's one in a million!!!

Such a shame that people feel a need to praise their favorite singer by bad mouthing another. The 3 notable versions of this classic are Dionne's, Cilla's and Dusty's. Dionne had a hit in US, Cilla in UK and Dusy recorded it for her first Album(solo). All have their supporter's, but of course Lovely. Legendary Dusty's is mine. But I have no desire or need to denigrate the other versions.

You know what? I gave it some serious thought, and having heard all three, studio recorded verions from Cilla, Dionne and Dusty, over my forty plus years, decided i really can't separate them for quality of delivery, heart, believability, and emotional power - and let's face it, 60's ballads typically had to be big on all four fronts. I wan't y'all to think about that for a moment... what other era, but the 50's & 60's - in a time pre-dating mass media, Internet, and the age of so called "social media", can the listening public get three songstresses delivering spectacular versions of the same ballad that have since become legendary hits, completely independent of the other versions?? The answer is, never.. zip.. nada. Oh how i hate the 21st century.

Great job, but something about Cilla and Dionne - maybe they have a less mellow sound that cuts through in the end of the song. To some, that is bad, but I think in this case it works better for this song. No one touches Dusty on Song of a Preacher Man. BTW, Cilla had heard Dionne's version of the song and copies the phrasing and timing of the song. So, Cilla is great, but I give the nod to who interpreted the song first - Dionne Warwick.
