I love Dionne especially Do You Know The Way To San Jose but Cilla Black's version of this particular song is far better...

wI work for a major airlines. Some years back I was fortunate to hselp Ms..Warwick book a flight. We got disconnected.I call her back and completed the booking.I told her how much I loved her.I grew up in the projects as a latch-key kid.We ran home and put on our favorite music until everybody was home.Ms.Warwick was one those that made me feel safe until my mom came home.Thank you.

The thing you have to consider as you watch Dionne Warwick is that she was forced to tone down her emotion and body language simply because sponsors and producers thought it would be too ethnic for black people to move passionately and rhythmically. If black artist wanted crossover success and wanted to appeal to white audiences they had to comply. Motown documentaries talk about this all the time. If Dionne were allowed to let loose I doubt anyone would ever compare anyone to her. She was in effect singing with one arm tied behind her back (metaphorically).

All you Cilla v Dionne people listen to the Linda Ronstadt version. I love Dionne. Cilla annoys me like nails on a chalk board. By far the best is Linda.

I wonder if many people in the UK realize the Dionne Warwick version of the song was the original instead of Cilla Black's, let alone heard Dionne's version in early 64?

Surprising to see how many covered this song. Dionne Warwick always a has a laid back approach, but Cilla Black has more passion in this song. Two singers, 2 different approaches. No one can doubt the talent of either singer.
