Duran Duran - (I'm Looking For) Cracks in the Pavement

Genre: New Wave

Album: Seven And The Ragged Tiger

Released: 1984

Recorded: Sydney, Australia 1983

Lyrics:

I shed my skin

When the party was about to begin

I'm light years away but

I'm walking back, tonight,

Of all nights

When I should be feeling just right

Don't want to be in public,

My head is full of chopstick I don't like it.

Something on my mind..

Breaking open doors I sealed up before,

Something on my mind..

Makes me run when I thought I'd run too far.

Somebody shaking my tree

Maybe that somebody is me

I'm standing in the light but I'm making a break for

The shadows on the cinema wall.

They should be mine but I'm not that tall

Now I'm saying this in private

If I had a car,

I'd drive it insane

(chorus) (chorus)

I'm looking for cracks in the pavement...

(chorus) (chorus) (chorus)

Love this song! When you think of the most popular 'boy bands' of the 80s Duran, Wham, Spandau they all wrote their own songs, something that's so sadly lacking today.

Great song. I love "Seven"; its only drawback was that it followed "Rio" (the boys set the bar pretty high with that one). The sound of the album was so mature, and there were so many tracks that flew under the radar: "Shadows On Your Side," "Tiger Tiger" (a fantastic instrumental), "(I'm Looking For) Cracks in the Pavement" and the criminally underrated "The Seventh Stranger" (a brooding, melancholy classic if there ever was one).Despite its popularity as a genre, 80s music gets panned for being superficial. However, in my view, Duran Duran was anything but superficial. These guys were serious musicians with chops, which was sadly overshadowed by their fashion-plate image.

this album, holds a special place in my heart as their best. I would dance and sing all the lyrics then when the album was over I would start it all over again (!) Hahahaha, I must have worn out the grooves in the record by playing it so much! Every song is so great on the album. Now that I am older I can hear the layering of all the instruments and just how creative artistically it really is. I mean, New Moon on Monday has fireworks in it. I have never heard a song with fireworks in it before.

Me too! This was the very first album I had ever gotten by my grandma and I listened to it 3 or 4 times a day all summer long when I was 10 years old :) Seven and the Ragged Tiger is my favorite album ever and I still love Duran Duran. I think they are the best. I keep finding great albums of theirs that I didn't listen to before. They have created so many different sounding albums that it is really cool to hear the different stages in their career. All their albums are good. But, of course,

Nobody ever realises this, sadly, but there was a lot to be said about how great it was being a teenager in the 80s - today's youngsters have missed out greatly :)
