Actually in early scots it meant to wander, hence the term haversack for the small day hiking back packs. This is what my Scottish great grandfather had to say about it and I suspect he was more educated on Scottish history then most of the youth today.13 years ago

"haver" means to talk rubbish. It's an ancient Scott's word. The guitarist from The Proclaimers explained that on a TV show before they played live. They sound AWESOME live!
