Charted at #7 on Billboard Hot 100 in July 1957. Original Billboard review: "Versions of this by Owen Bradley on Decca and by Dave Gardner on O-J (the original) are both moving out nicely but Don Rondo's bright, happy reading could take the marbles. Definitely his strongest side since "Two Different Worlds"." Other charting versions of this song: #18 for Owen Bradley in July 1957, #28 for Dave Gardner in July 1957, #9 for Bill Black's Combo in March 1960 (#1 R&B, #50 UK) and #5 for Sonny James on the Country chart in 1972.

Don had two other Billboard chart records: "Two Different Worlds" (#11 in October 1956) and "There's Only You" (#77 in October 1957).

Written by Charles 'Red' Matthews & Gladys Reinhart.

B-side is "Stars Fell on Alabama".

Where the deep blue pearly watersWash upon white silver sandsThere on the brink of love I kissed herAnd obeyed our hearts command~Where the deep blue pearly watersWash upon white silver sandsWe watched the sun set in the eveningIn a far and distant land~So were beneath skies blue heavenThere's a place I must goSee the sun set in the eveningWith the only love I know~Where the deep blue pearly watersWash upon white silver sandsThere on the brink of love I kissed herAnd obeyed our hearts command~[Instrumental Interlude]~Where the deep blue pearly watersWash upon white silver sandsThere on the brink of love I kissed herAnd obeyed our hearts command~We watched the sun set in the eveningSee the moon yellow and paleWatch the gaucho's ride the pinto'sOut across the pampas trail~Where the deep blue pearly watersWash upon white silver sandsThere on the brink of love I kissed herAnd obeyed our hearts command

the late Don Rondo lived in Manchester, NH and I understand he was part-owner of a Ziebart Rustproofing franchise. if you remember the radio commercials in the l970s "Ziebart...Ziebart...it's us..or rust!" that was Don Rondo singing. in later years, he appeared on weekends at the Airport Lounge in Manchester.

One of the fondest memories of my childhood in central Wisconsin: listening to this song over and over on the jukebox at Silver Lake Resort (Wild Rose, WI), complete with white, silver sands.

I don't normally like electronic organs in pop songs but it fits very well into this number. A nice record that brings back great 50's memories to me! Thanks for uploading it.

On this day in 1957 {August 6th} Don Rondo performed "White Silver Sands" on the late Dick Clark's American Bandstand... One month earlier on July 15th it entered Billboard's Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #7 and spent 19 weeks on the Top 100 chart... Three years later in 1960 Bill Black's Combo covered it; and his version also reached #7 on the Top 100, but on April 25th, 1960 it reached #1 {for 4 weeks} on Billboard's R&B chart... R.I.P. Mr. Rondo, Mr. Black, and Mr. Clark...

This brings back the old Terrell Wells swimming pool in San Antonio. I don't believe this is the version that played on the juke box, but it will do.
