It really gets me how dramatically different Donald Fagen's version is from this early version of the song.

Besides the Drifters' original, the Beach Boys recorded it 1965, very much based on this arrangement. They also redid it in 1976. All 4 versions are in my Beach Boys covering and covers playlist. Thanks for the upload!

I loved Dion's rendition of the Drifter's classic It was on Columbia! no Belmonts Of no importance but I remember the record being orange with the Columbia logo Columbia would use different colours on 45s and soon had sketches of the artist as with "This Little Girl" with the Dion sketch in black on a pink label Dion made a return to Laurie for "Abraham, Martin and John" He was a real talent and star, yeah he got caught up with a dope habit but eventually cleaned up and is still performin' Belmont Ave was on the other side of the Grand Concourse and some blocks back in the day a rather indescript hood largely Italian back in the day

I wonder if Dion DiMucci would've stayed on top of popular music if it wasn't for his smack addiction...
