All through the 1950s, Dickie Valentine was one of the UK's most popular vocalists, enjoying many chart hits including two No.1s with 'Finger Of Suspicion' and 'Christmas Alphabet'. A highlight of his stage and television performances was his entertaining and skillful impersonations of other singers. In this clip you can hear Dickie sing 'You Made Me Love You' sounding just like Nat King Cole, Billy Eckstine and Johnnie Ray.

Sixty years on; who would've thought it? Respect to his memory, he wasn't just the tame crooner most of us remember. YouTube and its contributors are an international treasure.

Another fine entertainer who was wiped out by rock and roll.

Sitting outside Costos today I was talking to an old chap, respectively he 75, me 67, and we both remembered Dicky Valentine on TV in the late '50's and early '60's. I now look at Mr. Valentine and he is as handsome as I remember, but I did not or do not remember that he was as talented as shown here. Like you all, I say to myself - what ever happened to Dicky Valentine?

I have a wonderful memory of Dickie Valentine. In the mid 1950's (I was 16) he appeared at the Norwich Theatre Royal and I went to see him. What a performer!! I joined the long queue backstage; his wife was also there in the dressing room. We had a lovely chat, said cheerio and I joined the queue again.. He smiled when I reached him, but signed his autograph again. I left his dressing room, went to the main door and turned round; he stood there and waved goodbye.
