This group is made up of some of the best country stars of all time. This particular song is timeless - symbolically, it also applies to today's foreign workers.

Curiosity: All the people voicing displeasure about deporting illegals - what is the problem with going through the INS and the LEGAL method of entering the country? We have steps in place to allow immigration, use them. Pretty simple really.

Gene Torrez spent the night in jail with Johnny Rodriguez.

This is not the Highwaymen singing, Waylon and Kris aren't part of this version. It is Johnny Cash, Johnny Rodriguez and Willie Nelson, but equally a good job, well sung

The pity and shame of this, is that it's still happening. People still chased like rustles, like thieves for all different and sick reasons. Do we ever learn anything?

Y esta rola esta dedicada a los 28 deportados de 1948 que perdieron su vida en el avionazo... una cancion que motivo a Cesar E Chavez a la LUCHA!!!

On 28 Jan 1948, A DC 3 crashed in the foothills of western Fresno County; it was carrying 4 crew and 28 citizens of Mexico....some returning legally, and some being deported. The marker in the cemetery only said "28 citizens of Mexico" with no names listed. Today, 10 July 2013, the LA Times reports that, after 65 years, all 28 names have been identified and inscribed on a memorial. It will be dedicated on Labor Day.

Beautiful song, But why were they "deportees"? Surely not because they were here illegally?
