Art Tatum usually played solo, for the obvious reason that there were very few musicians who could keep up with the speed of his imagination and inventiveness. But on this occasion, he found a worthy companion in Buddy DeFranco on clarinet. DeFranco shows a deep understanding of Tatum's genius and even plays some Tatumesque runs on his own instrument. The result is a wonderful recording, with some magical interplay, especially towards the end.
